Easter Island

Is archaeology one of your passons? Do you love watching about ancient civilizations? Do you like those weird mystical legends? If you are, you would likely have learned of a deserted little island in the South Pacific called the Easter island.

Not all that much is known about this deserted and mystical little island and about the people who used to live in it. One thing we know for sure about the Easter island is that it has a history of volcanic action. The island itself is actually thought to be a part of huge volcano. It s situated more than 2000 miles away from Chile and most consider it to be one of the most isolated places on planet earth.

Easter island is not the historical name that was used for this island. Since the first European who set foot on it got there on the Easter Sunday, the island got christened as Easter island. If you want to see the big, mystical and fairly dark looking statues there, you could go there for a visit from Santiago. The trip from Santiago to the Easter island would likely cost you less than $900. If you are no big fan of historical sites yet, this might not be such a good thought as there is little more to see other than objects of historical value.

It is not that hard to imagine why Easter islands is so lonely. It doesn t have the necessary natural resources enough for even most animals to survive. Those environmentalists who campaign for conservation of natural resources might be very entertained to know, that Easter island is a good example to prove their arguments. This is because the island s resources were likely over used some where in the past leading to the wipeout of life that existed there.

Maybe the most mystical thing about the Easter island is the statues that are there. No one can say for sure how or why they were established and there still much speculation surrounding the topic. Some even say that the island is part of a lost continent though there doesn t seem to be much grounds to support these wild and creative theories. Naturally some even consider in the theory surrounding alien conspiracies but a few have taken such extreme views seriously.

If you are really interested in looking at the glory of this island, then you should pay a visit to Easter island next time you go to Santiago. It might be an unforgettable experience.
